Spring 2 Week 5

We have been busy again this week!

We have been learning about farming and where our food comes from. We have also began to look at life cycles. We visited Easton college farm and had a wonderful day! Thank you for getting your child to school early and collecting them late. It was well worth it we had a great day and learned lots :)

We have also been making cards for Mothers day (check their book bags Sunday) and been thinking about all the things our Mums do for us! We are very thankful! We hope you enjoyed the Mothers Day Tea Party! We enjoyed making sandwiches and hope you liked them! We really appreciate everybody that attended!

We have also started our maypole dancing ready for the Spring Fayre. We will continue to practice this next week.

In English we have been starting to create an information leaflet about farming and in Maths we have worked on telling the time. We have also recapped subtraction, multiplication, addition and division.  Practising telling the time at home; o'clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to will really help your child.

In phonics we have looked at the all sound in always, fall, hall etc. We have also looked at the o sometimes making the u sound ie son, other.

Next week we have Easter craft morning, hope to see some of you there :)

Spring 2 Week 4

We have had a super busy week! We had a fantastic time visiting the Academy and doing some spectacular art this week! Lots of us thought it was very big but are now quite excited to visit again later in the year!

We have been learning to tell the time. This may be something you wish to practice at home. We have been learning o'clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to. Some of us even did the closest 5 minutes.

We have also been making bread. We did this by ourselves. We measured our own ingredients using scales and a measuring jug. We looked at grams and millilitres. We followed the design of bread we created and added different toppings. Some of us made a pizza flat bread, some a bloomer, loaf, rolls or a french stick. We evaluated our own work and a friends!

We have been learning throwing and catching skills in PE.

Reminder: Farm trip on Thursday please make sure your consent form is returned.
Parents evening next week. Please do ask for an appointment if you haven't already booked :)

Spring week 3

Thank you Green class again for another awesome week! It has been super busy.

We have had science week and have done some awesome experiments. We did the skittles experiment and  created so many cool patterns. We have used glass test tubes and created sugar rainbows. We looked at dissolving sugar and added food colouring to it and experimented with layering colours using pipettes. We also began creating our flower beds which  are on the playground  so please have a look. As you can see we did these ourselves :) We also used lemon juice and hairdryers to write secret messages! We had a super fun day being scientists!

On Wednesday we had Laura Samuels come to visit us and we even got to hold her Silver commonwealth medal! Thank you for all the sponsorship money you helped raise! The children did a fantastic job in their sponsored circuit. We feel quite inspired to try some new sports!

On Friday we celebrated comic relief. Thank you again for all of the money you helped us to raise for comic relief! We had a good time making red nose day biscuits and making pom poms. We also thought about how thankful we are for all of the things we take for granted; warm home, bed, clean clothes, family and friends. We looked at why we raise money for comic relief and know that some people aren't as lucky as we are.

We have been looking at creating repeating patterns in Maths and begun telling the time. In English this week we have been writing letters to submit our inventions we designed on science day to the Engineering competition. We will be sending these off this week. We have our fingers crossed that someone at Sutton will win the competition.

Just a reminder we are visiting Stalham Academy on Monday.

Spring 2 Week 2

What a week! We have had so much fun! World book day and pancake day!

Green class really enjoyed making pancakes. We worked on measuring out ingredients and following a recipe. We then created a tally of which toppings we were going to use and of course we then ate our pancake we had made! We discussed lent this week.

On Thursday it was World book day and we came to school in our PJs with our favourite bedtime stories! There were some brilliant stories! Thank you to all the parents/grandparents that stayed for drop and read :) We also enjoyed planning and writing our own stories for the day.

In DT this week we have been evaluating bread, by looking and tasting and evaluating the packaging! We have now designed our own bread. (Some of them even decided to use chillies!) We will be making our own design of bread in the coming weeks!

In Maths we have been working on fractions. We made a fraction wall and have been thinking about equivalent fractions. We know 1/2 is the same as 2/4.  Some of us found the pattern and could continue it up to 100/200!

In English we have written a letter based on the book 'The day the crayons quit'.

In Grammar we have been looking at the spelling rules when adding the er or est suffix.

Thank you to all the children again this week for all trying your absolute best!

Thank you to everyone that came to our Maths Cafe on Monday. Green class love sharing our leaning! If you do have any questions you wish to ask about how a Maths concept is taught in Year 2 please come and ask, very happy to show you.

We have been in the forest schools area this week looking for amphibians, reptiles and mammals.

In Maths we have been learning about 3D shapes. We have been on a shape hunt around school.
